The Head Start Program is operated through Gadsden County Schools. Head Start is a comprehensive early childhood program providing health, education, and social services to children who become three (3) or four (4) years old on or before September 1st. Families must meet income eligibility guidelines as provided by the federal government for the Head Start Program. This school-based program operates consistently with the Gadsden County Schools schedule and calendar.
Head Start serves over 300 community children in sixteen (16) classrooms located at six (6) of the elementary schools, one community site located in Midway, and one community site located in Quincy. Three (3) year old children are served at selected sites only. Children are provided with breakfast, lunch and snack daily. School bus transportation is provided within the assigned school zones.
The Gadsden County Head Start Program also offers a limited number of full day childcare slots at the Quincy Area 3’s Center in Quincy. This program is for children whose parents work, attend school, or are enrolled in a training program. Children must be three (3) years old on or before September 1st and must meet income eligibility guidelines. Children are provided with breakfast, lunch and snack daily. Parents must provide transportation to and from center.
